7 May 2018
A wound management and suture workshop was organised jointly by MSPRS and the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Hospital Kuala Lumpur on 7th May 2018.
A total of 56 participants comprising house officers, staff nurses and medical assistants from various departments in Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Klinik Tanglin attended the day long workshop.
The objectives of the workshop were among others an introduction to acute and chronic wounds, to recognise the various factors to be considered when dealing with acute wounds over the face region and management of chronic wounds and burn wounds.
There were two workshops held. In the wound workshop, participants were divided into groups and given pictures of problematic wounds which included the progression of the wounds at various stages. Each group then presented the clinical case to the rest of the participants and a lively discussion ensued. In the afternoon, participants had the chance to have a hands-on experience in various suturing techniques using sutures and suture pads supplied by our industry sponsors. They received individual guidance on suturing techniques by plastic surgeons and senior medical officers from the department.
The feedback received showed that participants found the content relevant and enjoyed gaining both knowledge and practical skills in a semi-formal setting.
The organising committee hopes to make this event an annual programme looking at the feedback and interest generated from this years workshop.
